So always thin pure tung oil in floor applications and wipe off the excess. Instead of installing pre finished floors or using polyurethane we chose to finish unfinished yellow pine with pure tung oil. All varnishes are made of various oils and it s their ability to harden into a film that will make them water resistant.
Penetrating oil look green why do we love it. We finished our wide pine floor boards that were from a mill same pine we installed on the walls with dark tung oil. Unlike almost everything else imported from china tung oil is green.
And pure tung has a limited ability to cure or oxidize into a film that will protect the wood. Eventually you will most likely find it necessary to recoat your entire floor. Incredibly time cpnsuming compared to poly but non toxic and we can apply more as time goaes on or over scratches.
