Sanding A Wood Floor
Many finishes take 24 hours to dry.
Sanding a wood floor. On older floors the first step when sanding is to choose an aggressive grit like 24. Gently wipe the floor with a terry cloth mop or a towel wrapped around a mop head. Sand the floor starting with the board in the corner of the room.
Apply light pressure to the sanding block and sand with the grain of the wood. Once you have sanded the board move the block half way over the adjacent board and sand again. Determine your grit sequence.
Start on the opposite side of. Remove all the furniture and spray the floor with a hardwood flooring cleaner or your own mix of 10 parts water to 1 part white vinegar. Sketch pencil marks on the floor optional.
The exact same way you would with floor sanding machines but with a lot more elbow grease. Sanding the floor smooth 1. Cupboards doorways closets and any other areas or items where you are working should be.
At this stage it can be difficult to see how effective the sanding is. Several passes with the sanding tools will be required to achieve a smooth finish. Before you start sanding remove everything from the room and vacuum the floor.
When each coat dries sand the floor lightly with 220 grit paper or 000 steel wool. You ll need to sand the entire floor not just one section. By now your floor will be free of the old finish but many scratches may still be.
