Price Floor Price Ceiling

Two things can happen when a price floor is implemented.

Price ceilings are maximum prices set by the government for particular goods and services that they believe are being sold at too high of a price and thus consumers need some help purchasing them. A price ceiling is imposed at 400 so firms in the market now produce only a quantity of 15 000. In this case there is no effect on anything and the equilibrium price and quantity stay the same.

Consumer surplus is g h j and producer surplus is i k. In other words a price floor below equilibrium will not be binding and will have no effect. Price ceilings only become a problem when they are set below the market equilibrium price.

Price floors prevent a price from falling below a certain level. Price floors and price ceilings are government imposed minimums and maximums on the price of certain goods or services. These price controls are legal restrictions on how high or how low a market price can go.

The price floor definition in economics is the minimum price allowed for a particular good or service. The price ceiling is above the equilibrium price. A government law that makes it illegal to charger lower than the specified price.
