Laying A Concrete Floor With Membrane
A final screed layer is put in place and left to cure for a week.
Laying a concrete floor with membrane. Start at the wall furthest away from the doorway and lay the concrete in strips across the room of no more than 600mm wide. Dig up the old concrete floor install a new damp proof membrane and lap up edges before replacing the concrete slab fully isolate the dampness in the floor using a surface damp proof membrane dpm. The concrete slab needs to be made from a medium strength mix.
When installing a tile floor a layer of cement backer board is usually put down over a plywood subfloor to provide a firm stable surface. When faced with damp in concrete floors there are two options available. Roll the membrane back up.
A damp proof membrane is put down. Insulation is put down. We suggest 1 part cement 2 1 2 parts sand and 4 parts aggregate.
Concrete is poured and left to cure for a minimum of three days. Don t add too much water as you want the mix to be fairly stiff. Approximately 1 400 including labour beam and block floors.
A waterproof underlayment membrane like ditra from schluter systems can be substituted for backer board. Underfloor heating pipes are put in place if necessary.
